Spherical valve of a hydropower plant recovered through welding

A spherical valve used in a hydropower plant presented wear in one of its inner surfaces due to the environmental and operational conditions. It was decided to repair the valve by welding. Kobaltum reviewed the welding procedure specification (WPS) and qualified the welders to carry out the repair.

The recovering of the spherical valve through welding allowed generating the following benefits for our customer:

• Money and time savings by eliminating the need for a new spherical valve
• Increasing the availability of critical component for the operation of the plant
• A component repaired with similar properties and characteristics of  a new one
• Improvement of the welder operators ability to repair similar components
• Knowledge to replicate similar procedures in other applications
