Diagnostic of the operating conditions of Pelton turbines in a hydropower plant

The main wear mechanisms acting in the surface of the turbines of a hydropower plant were determined. The analysis also included the evaluation of the environmental conditions of the location where the plant was built. The diagnostic was made based on the analysis of river sediments, the water flow conditions and the efficiency of the sandtrap.

The diagnostic of the operating conditions of the turbines allowed our customer to get the following benefits:

• Knowledge about the operating conditions that cause wear in the turbines of the hydropower plant and the equipment that needs an intervention in order to mitigate it
• Recommendations to increase the efficiency of the equipment that needs an intervention
• Recommendations to carry out the predictive-preventive maintenance of the hydropower plant and the management of the turbines historical records
